Five.

Existence.

Existence, existence, existence. Just by typing the word, too many thoughts, some unwanted come to mind. In the grand scheme of things, my existence is close to a speck but as much as we are a part of the galaxy, we are also part of this world, a place where our existence matters. Why do I say it matters? Because the carvings on this earth is the result of our existence. Be it existence of idea, of body, or of soul.

I live by a very simple rule, that is, I believe everything happens for a reason which makes coincidence and accidents or chances all as good as null. I may not be entirely sure as to why we exist but what I am certain of is that, there is definitely a solid reason. It all comes down to purpose, and reason. Why do we exist. Is it to come down, do some cleaning up and go back up? What is the rule of existence. To adhere to your creator's command?

I think, therefore I am.

Existence is very subjective. When you are thinking, doing something, using the gift of limbs to produce something. Then you are an existing dust. But if you are just here with no input, merely living with no personal purpose then existence is just a state of being and doesn't cover the very essence of it.

We coexist with various different elements and rely on them inevitably. Light, wind, water, nature. Architects nurture the existence of others. To create shelter, a place to exist.

Project 2A

We were given the task by Ar. Najib to draw anything of the organic nature and equip it with a combination of renderings inclusive of hatching, cross-hatching, stippling, scribbling and the whole enchilada.

Project 2B

We then proceeded with Project 2B where the task handed to us was to derive any man-made structure based on the natural form we chose to sketch in the earlier project.

My oak tree that stretched throughout my A3 paper was transformed into a functional sculpture for a park as the site. The branches would serve as water pathways and the leaves as sprinklers as a symbol of a man-made structure nurturing the nature, much less imitating it's form. At the same time, certain parts of the stainless steel sculpture will be installed with properly insulated points of light which in the day could be perceived as fruits but at night as a source of lighting in the park.

To further maximize the functionality of the sculpture, rocks made of chiseled wood in a glass shelter would be placed under the sculpture. The wooden rocks would serve as a sitting area to celebrate the atmosphere of the park. It would be aesthetically pleasing to bask in the beauty of the park while reading a book or picnicking with trickling water effect on the glass as a result of the sprinkler.

Content 2: "My Big Bang!"

"My Big Bang" is generally an orientation handled mostly by the seniors for the first year students to help them blend in with the people as well as lecturers in the faculty. An amount of RM36 has been collected from every student to aid the activities planned for us.

We were asked to be present at these days and times:

Thursday - 5.15pm (Minden field)
Friday - 3pm (E48B), 8.30PM (Dataran Merah)
Saturday - 10am (location unknown)

First day of "My Big Bang" was a netball tournament where the first year students got the opportunity to mingle and battle with some lecturers and seniors inclusive of masters and second year students. Although it started a little later than scheduled, (gathering all the students were a minor hitch) the games were conducted efficiently and most importantly, it was certainly an enjoyable first activity.

And by night time, we were divided into groups and were given a task to come up with a group name, cheer and a sculpture complete with reasoning and justifications.

Saturday, 11th July 2009: Soft landing activity.

Sunday, 12th July 2009: Performance preparation and Masquerade themed Grand Dinner.

Content 1: "What I read today, 06 July 2009, 0900-1200"

Basically, I have been introduced to 3 major elements of production and a further 3 extrapolation of the aforementioned major elements.

1. Intention --- actors
2. Act --- rules
3. Product --- site

1. Intention as the word conveys, is a portrayal of what one intends, plans, envisions to do. And the only plausible candidate to execute these intentions are the actors. Which are humans.

2. Every intention entails an act and in order to administrate the particular act, one must always be controlled by a set of rules inclusive of dos and don'ts as guidance to ensure the act is done in the the correct and appropriate manner.

3. The product is obviously the outcome of both intention and action and is done on a specific or desired site.

It is vital that the intention, act and product is enforced by these 3 fundamental senses:

- Physical
- Mental
- Soul

These rules and elements are to be implemented in life (if not subconsciously already) as well as in the field of Architecture.
